UK Eco Train Station

An eco train station in the UK looks set to go ahead. Accrington station in the UK is being knocked known and rebuilt using “green” materials at an estimated cost of $5 million (£2.5 million). It is planned that the buildind will have wind turbines to generate electricity with rainwater being used in the toilets and sinks. There are also plans to use solar panels to heat water.

Although the station hasn’t been given the go-ahead quite yet, a planning application has been submitted and has been recommended for approval by the authority’s development control committee.

It is hoped that more stations around the UK will follow suit and become more environmentally friendly. The materials used in the construction will be locally sourced wherever possible ensuring the carbon emissions are kept to a minimum. If given the go-ahead, the work will take approximately 18 months to complete.
