Monsters Inc beats Live Earth

More people in the US chose to watch a re-run of the animated film Monsters Inc. than watch Live Earth according the the latest figures released. The 3 hours long NBC programme marking the day of Live Earth concerts was the least watched show on mainstream Saturday US television with a viewing audience of just 2.7 million viewers.

Despite these poor figures, 19 million US people saw some of the Live Earth coverage during the day according to Nielson Media Research, with online figures boosting the viewing figures further. Over the course of the day more than 9 million streams were created, a figure which surpasses the previous peak for the Live 8 concerts in 2005.

Live Earth has come under a lot of criticism with many of the stars accused of hypocrisy - many of the celebrities were promoting the green cause whilst notching up huge carbon emissions thanks to their lifestyles which includes private jets and large, around the world tours. However it’s not all bad - the concert has certainly raised the awareness of climate change and carbon emissions throughout the world.
